The
Institute of
Chartered Accountants of
India (ICAI) is a
statutory
body set up under the Chartered
Accountants
Act, 1949 (Act NO. XXXVIII of 1949)
enacted by the
Parliament
of India
to impart
education
training and regulate the
Chartered
Accountancy profession .
During
its more than 57 years
of existence,
the Institute has achieved
recognition
as a premier accounting body
not only
in the country
but also globally, for its
contribution
in the fields
of education, professional development, maintenance of high
accounting & auditing standards.
The
Institute has its headquarters at New
Delhi
with
5 Regional Offices
at Mumbai, Chennai, Kanpur
Kolkata & New Delhi and more than
100 branches
spread
all over the country. In
addition, it has also
set
up
12 Chapters outside India and has
opened an
office in Dubai & Engalnd as
well. The Institute
is proud to have more than 1,30,000 CA
Professional at its roll.
The
affairs of the
Institute
are managed by the
Council
in
accordance
with
the
provisions
of
the
Chartered
Accountants
Act, 1949 and the
Chartered
Accountants
Regulation
1988. The
Council consist of 40 members of whom 32
are elected
by the members and
remaining
eight
are nominated by the Central Government.
The
Office of
Central
India Regional Council
(CIRC)
is situated at
Kanpur
having
34 Branches at Agra, Ajmer,
Allahabad, Alwar, Bareilly, Bhilai,
Bhilwara,
Bhopal, Bilaspur, Dehradun,
Dhanbad,
Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Gwalaior, Inodre, Jabalpur,
Jaipur,
Jamshedpur, Jodhpur, Kota,
Lucknow,
Mathura, Meerut,
Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Noida,
Patna,
Raipur, Ranchi, Saharanpur, Udaipur,
Ujjain, Varanasi,
CPE Chapters at Beawar, Bikaner,
Bilaspur,
Bhagalpur,
Bhiwadi, Bundelkhand, Chittorgarh,
Gorakhpur, Kumaon, Pali Marwar, Ratlam, Sri
Ganganagar, Shekhawati and
16 CPE study groups at to discharge the functioning
of the Regional Council.
Central
Region of the Institute
consist
of seven states viz.
UP, Uttaranchal,
MP, Chattishgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand
&
Rajasthan. Currently
over
1,00,000
students
are pursuing the Chartered
Accountancy
Course
and the total number of Members of
the Central Region is more
than 18000.
The
Regional
Council plays a catelystic
role
in
disseminating professional
development and qualification &
measures.
It regularly
conducts the CPE Seminars,
Conferences, Study Circles Meetings,
Teleconferences for members. It also
conducts the
the
post qualification courses i.e.
Information Systems Audit (ISA),
Diploma
in Insurance and Risk Management
(DIRM),
programmes which
is
meant
for updating
the skills
&
equipping the
members with
various
techniques
to
members
in
their professional pursuits.
The
function
of
the Regional
Council
inter alias
includes
the following:
1.
To provide facilities
for
interaction
among
members in its region
by regular
meetings, arrangements of talks and
lectures and for the
acquisition
and
dissemination of useful information.
2.
To advise
the Council
on all
matters referred to
it
and to
offer such
other
assistance
as
may be
required
and to make representations to the
Council in connection with
the matters
of professional
and business interest
in its region and to
offer
suggestions for the amendment
of the Act and these regulations, for
raising
the standards
and
status
of
the profession;
3.
To propagate
among
the members the advisability and
the necessity of observing the
rules of
professional etiquette and the
provisions
of the act
and these regulations.
4.
To arrange,
if found practicable,
for coaching candidates
for the aforesaid
examinations at convenient
centers in its region
and
to gather
material from and
to make representation
to the departments of the government or
other local authorities
in the States within its
region
for the purpose of enlisting
their support in the
furtherance
of the interests
of the
members
on
matters
confined to the professional interest
of members within the region
